RUBITON STAKES PREVIEW

By Tim Hickman
05/02/2010
Lucky Secret will be attempting to win the Rubiton Stakes named in honour of his sire, a terrific racehorse and wonderful stallion.
Racing is at Caulfield this Saturday for the C.F Orr Stakes, but the betting for that has been stifled by Typhoon Tracy, as Denman elected to run in the three year old race on the same card. Therefore, for today’s preview, we will look at the Rubiton Stakes, the sixth race on the program.
The Caulfield track is presently rated a Dead 4, and there is a scattered shower forecast, but more likely than not the track will find its way into the good range at some point during the program.
A comment for every runner in the Rubiton Stakes follows.

Horse
Comment
Lucky Secret ($4.20)
A wonderful sprinter and almost impossible to beat at this distance when he is right. Hard to beat.
Here De Angels ($6)
At his most effective when he can control a race from the front at a moderate tempo – and he won’t be able to do that here. Not for me.
Gran Sasso ($18)
Quality sprinter on his day and the best value in the race.
Secret Flyer ($16)
Disappointing first up but could be in the finish if he bring his best form.
Happy Glen ($41)
Not going well enough.
Silver Bullion ($26)
Won nicely first up but badly weighted and up in class considerably. Prefer others.
Gold In Dubai ($21)
Others may have his measure.
Rostova ($16)
Couldn’t see her finishing in front of Avenue under any circumstances .
Irish Lights ($4.60)
Expect her to finish off well but some of the more natural speed horses should have her measure.
Avenue ($3.40)
Full sister to the great sprinting mare Virage De Fortune and looks like she has nearly as much ability. However, she is a three year old filly taking on the older horses and that is always a tough ask. No value.
Dissolved ($18)
No doubt he will win races but this is a very tough ask at this stage of his career.

I’d back Lucky Secret each way.
